News released: 12/10/2009NSW U15 Boys have come back from an earlier loss to Victoria to take out Australian U15 Boys Championship title 4-3 in a nail biting final in Adelaide on Saturday.
The NSW team had a strong and well-built championship, defeating every state and territory, often in convincing fashion. Their only hurdle was Victoria, who kept the NSW boys scoreless in round two and whom the NSW team set their sights on should they make the final.
They needed to score one goal in the final round against Tasmania to qualify for the final, and did so with a 6-0 win.
In the final they met the ever-strong Victoria and played out a tough match both teams fighting out a scoreless first 20 minutes. It was Brandon Horner who got the breakthrough for NSW in the 22nd minute, his goal immediately answered by Victoria. With a 1-1 half time break, NSW came out firing in the second, Nick Hill and Matt Dawson taking NSW to a 3-1 lead which they held til the 65th minute mark.
With 5 on the clock Victoria were not willing to go down, with two goals in as many minutes leaving a nail biting final 3 minutes for coaches, players and spectators.
The NSW boys were composed however and held on to their lead and the title from 2008, marking a wonderful campaign and yet another notch for NSW teams in 2009.
