NEW LOOK HOCKEY NSW BOARD

 

Hockey NSW is pleased to welcome four new faces to the organisation’s Board.

Adriana Care, Peter Friend, Graeme McKenzie and David Mallon have joined existing Directors Craig Colvin, Bianca Broadhurst and Beth Shea forming a new-look Board set to steer our sport during 2019.

At the 2019 Hockey NSW Annual General Meeting on March 16th, Adriana and Graeme were elected unopposed and will serve an initial term of three years.

Adriana comes to Hockey NSW with extensive experience in the legal industry. Adriana currently owns and runs a female founded law firm, that began over 12 years ago in Narellan. She is a current Director of the NSW Law Society and The Camden Region Economic Taskforce and holds a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce. In addition to her successful career, Adriana has supported, played and coached hockey competitively and been involved in school hockey for most of her life around South-West Sydney.

Graeme is a passionate hockey participant who has been involved with all levels of the sport for over 40 years. Graeme has previously served as a Director of Hockey NSW from 2009 – 2015. Before that, he held positions as the President of Tamworth Hockey Association and Secretary/Treasurer of Workmens Hockey Club. In addition to his extensive administration experience, he has played the sport continuously from 1970 and has coached at various levels since 1994. Professionally, Graeme is Civil/Structural Engineer who holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Maths.

David Mallon joins the Board in a casual vacancy position for the term of two years, replacing Chris Sheppeard who has stepped down. David has worked professionally as barrister in NSW for 25 years appearing on behalf of numerous Government agencies and commercial organisations . Alongside this work, he has sat on various committees established by the Australian Olympic Committee and served on the disciplinary tribunals for Taekwondo Australia and Sydney Men’s Hockey Association. David comes from a large hockey family and has had a long association with the sport. He represented WA, NSW and Tasmania during his junior playing days and has coached at various levels including the NSW Men’s Opens Team (Waratahs) in 1985-1986. David’s main involvement in hockey currently is through his three children Jacinta, Georgina and Toby.

Late last year, the Board appointed Peter Friend as an Independent Director – Legal. Peter replaced Tolly Saivanidis who retired in mid-2018 after holding the position for six years. Peter joins Hockey NSW with over 30 years’ experience in law and sports administration. He has held extensive management and corporate positions with organisations such as the Football Federation of Australia, Australian Rugby Union and TAB. He is currently the Principal of his own company Commercial Acumen which specialises in the provision of governance, legal and probity advice, as well as management and company secretarial services.

“Our new board members have diverse backgrounds, which is really important in contributing broad skillsets and different perspectives to the strategic direction of our sport.” Hockey NSW President Craig Colvin said.

“I look forward to working with all our new and existing Board members going forward.” Hockey NSW CEO David Thompson said.
