REGIONAL

The Regional Academies (RAS) program is formed by an underpinning development pathway for the Hockey NSW Athlete Acceleration Program.

Hockey NSW provides support and resources for the RAS program to assist in developing pre-elite hockey players. 

The purpose of the RAS hockey programs are to:

• Provide a pre-elite environment for the athletes
• Give access to quality services and programs as they progress through the pathway
• Prepare athletes for the hockey season
• Provide a coach excellence program for regional coaches
• Provide umpire education

The Regional Academies of Sport programs are intended to provide an integrated step to the Hockey NSW Athlete Acceleration Program. This pathway demonstrates the importance of Regional Academies to the Hockey NSW pathway.

METRO

The Sydney Metro Academy (SMA) is a program focused on developing the skills of talented players in the Sydney Metropolitan area.  Replicating what the Regional Academies offer our regional players, the SMA’s aim is to provide a summer development program to assist player development and promote the Hockey NSW Player Pathway.

Athlete are identified and nominated  for the program by the four Sydney Associations - Northwest Sydney, Northern Beaches, Sydney East and Sydney South Associations. The program is administered by volunteers and conducted by High Performance Coaches under the guidance of Hockey NSW. The Academy program concludes by participation in the Regional Academy Games.
