New Website Accessibility Widget Launched

Hockey NSW is proud to announce the launch of a brand new accessibility tool for our website which will improve the user experience for those with disabilities and impairments and demonstrates our organisation's commitment to inclusion.

Following the recent national website redevelopment project undertaken by Hockey Australia (HA) and State Member Associations (MA's), the accessibility tool has been implemented across all hockey websites nationally.

The UserWay accessibility widget caters for a range of impairments and incorporates inclusive practices to ensure everyone can access sport easily. The widget also meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and ensures best-practice accessibility standards.

The widget includes features such as text-to-speech, text magnification, high contrast options and more, allowing users to easily navigate the websites.

People with intellectual and physical disabilities, neurodiverse conditions and deaf people/hard of hearing will be able to utilise the range of options available to best suit their individual needs.

The widget is accessible via a small icon, depicted by an eye, and found in the top-right corner of our webpage.

Hockey NSW wishes to thank Hockey Victoria for initially leading the project and securing the funding which allowed all MA's to install the tool on their websites.

"Inclusiveness and innovation are two of Hockey NSW's key organisational values, and we're proud to be able to launch this accessibility tool which supports both of these important areas," says Hockey NSW CEO David Thompson.

"We want to ensure as many people as possible have the ability to access and play hockey. Tools such as this are one way that our sport can stand out from others and offer ourselves as an inclusive and welcoming option."
