Hockey NSW Welcomes Joel Ward as Greater Sydney Community Lead

Published Tue 13 Jun 2023

Hockey NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Joel Ward as Greater Sydney Community Lead. This is a newly formed role as part of the new Strategic focus on Growing the game at a community level.

Joel will be working directly with the 6 Greater Sydney Associations on growing the game with a focus on Juniors. Joel will work to build a workforce of coaches across Greater Sydney to increase Hockey's reach in schools, and increase our capacity to deliver participation programs like Hookin2 Hockey and Centre of Development. Joel will be an overseer of these programs to ensure that Hockey NSW can expand their reach across all of these community programs and broaden the base of participation.

Joel is a country boy who was born in Wagga and grew up in Grafton. He has played hockey from a young age and has previously worked for Grafton Hockey Association.

More recently, Joel has been working with the West Tigers NRL team in the Members space, connecting the NRL club to the grassroots and community associations and back. As an avid Hockey fan Joel has also assisted as a volunteer at the Pro-League games that were played in Sydney earlier this year.

Hockey NSW is looking forward to seeing the positive impact Joel brings to the community space. Congratulations and welcome, Joel!
