Published Fri 02 Feb 2024

Hockey NSW showcased its bright future for Indoor Hockey securing 10 medals at the pinnacle event of the season, the National Indoor Hockey Championships in Canberra from 3 January to 25 January 2024.

Out of the 8 Grand Finals played, NSW secured a remarkable presence in 7, attaining a tally of 5 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The U13’s age group abstained from finals, allowing the focus to shift towards developing skills and fostering a love for the game among the players.

Special congratulations are in order for the Open Men’s team, who secured a remarkable 14 championships in a row, a feat that solidifies their dominance within the Indoor Hockey arena.

Hockey NSW were also very proud to unveil at this event a new playing strip adorned with First Nations design “To Play with Heart” by Jodi Herden. The launch of the new playing strip, incorporating a First Nations design, reflects Hockey NSW’s commitment to diversity and cultural acknowledgement.

Corrina Baldock, Growth Manager, Hockey NSW said, “The success achieved at the National Championships not only highlights the talent within NSW, but also sets a promising tone for the future of the sport”.

A testament to the growth and dedication within the Hockey NSW community, 12 out of the 18 teams managed to surpass their previous year’s standings. This accomplishment underscores the commitment to continuous improvement and development at both the individual and team levels.

Hockey NSW can proudly reflect on an indoor season that featured 6 weekends of State championships, drawing the participation of 168 teams from Associations across NSW.  From these weekends a total of 216 athletes were selected to represent NSW at the National Championships, where 40 dedicated volunteer officials took 18 teams away.
