Published Fri 02 Sep 2022

NSW Pride is pleased to announce its 20 player Women’s and Men’s squads for Season 2 of the Sultana Bran Hockey One League.

After a successful inaugural season where the NSW Pride Men’s team finished as undefeated Champions, both the Women’s and Men’s squads are excited to start off Season 2 with thrilling matches against Hockey Club Melbourne, in Melbourne on Thursday 29 September.

Season 2 is set to be action-packed for NSW Pride with 12 players from the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras included in this year’s squads.

The squads also include 15 debutants with 14 of the 15 coming through the Hockey NSW Future Pride Camp that took place in 2020.

The Women’s squad includes 10 debutants including three teenagers who were recently named in the Jillaroos training camp squad, 18-year-old Makayla Jones (Goulburn) and 19-year old duo Alana Kavanagh (North West Sydney) and Kendelle Tait (North West Sydney).

The defending champions – NSW Pride Men’s squad will feature 15 returning players, including eight members of the Commonwealth Games gold medal winning squad from the recent Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

This season will see both squads play six rounds, including three home matches and for the first time in the Sultana Bran Hockey One League, NSW Pride will play one of its three home matches in Parkes in regional NSW.

This is great news for NSW Pride player, Hockeyroo and Parkes local Mariah Williams, who will get to play the last round of the season against Canberra Chill in her hometown.

Speaking ahead of Season 2, Hockey NSW CEO Emma Highwood said, “After a few years between seasons it is exciting to be able to announce these NSW Pride squads.”

“Following such a successful inaugural season with our all-conquering Men’s team finishing as Champions we cannot wait to see both squads showcase the spirit of Pride both on and off the field.

“We are thrilled to be able to take Sultana Bran Hockey One League to regional NSW this season. It is always a great atmosphere at sporting events in regional NSW and we thrilled to be able to host our last home match of the season in Parkes.”
