NSW Wrap Up U16 National Championships Campaign in Hobart

The 2026 Under 16 National Championships have come to a close in Hobart, with Hockey NSW teams delivering a week of strong performances, resilience and development on the national stage.

Across the tournament, NSW was represented by four teams — NSW State and NSW Blues in both the boys and girls competitions — all showcasing their talent and determination against the country’s best emerging athletes.

The highlight of the campaign came through the NSW State Girls, who produced an outstanding run to the Gold Medal match. After a consistent and composed tournament, they secured their place in the final with a 4–1 Semi Final victory over ACT. In a tightly contested decider, the girls went down 3–2 to Queensland Maroon, finishing with a well-earned Silver Medal and plenty to be proud of.

The NSW State Boys also impressed throughout the tournament, battling their way into the Semi Finals. A hard-fought loss to WA Gold saw them move into the Bronze Medal match, where they pushed ACT all the way before falling in a shootout, ultimately finishing in a commendable fourth place.

Both NSW Blues teams showed significant growth and determination across the week. The NSW Blues Girls finished their campaign strongly, securing a 2–0 win over South Australia to claim ninth place overall. The NSW Blues Boys also capped off their tournament with a competitive performance, finishing eighth after a narrow 2–1 loss to Queensland Gold.

Individually, NSW State’s Abby Mangan was recognised as the Player of the Championship, highlighting her exceptional impact and consistency across the tournament.

Hockey NSW was also well represented off the field, with six umpires — Riley New, Lachlan Walsh, Jonte Wicks, Annie Flack, Imogen Hislop and Erin McGrath — contributing across the week and playing an important role in the success of the event.

The championships provided a valuable platform for athlete development, with all four NSW teams demonstrating skill, resilience and a strong commitment to representing their state.
