State Championships Safe Hockey Code of Behaviour Acknowledgement

This Safe Hockey Code of Behaviour makes explicit the standards of behaviour that all People in Hockey are expected to adhere to in order to create a culture that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

All People in Hockey are required to comply with this Safe Hockey Code of Behaviour and the associated expectations outlined below.

Additionally, all People in Hockey are responsible for reporting any breach of this Safe Hockey Code of Behaviour to a supervisor.

Safe Hockey Policy

Full Name*

I will act within the law, adhere to all Hockey policies and procedures and be guided by Hockey’s mission and values at all times.*

I will demonstrate this by:

Always complying with Commonwealth and State legislation, especially in relation to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people*

Familiarising myself, and acting in accordance with the Safe Hockey Framework*

Fulfilling the roles and responsibilities as stated in my position description*

Raising concerns about the behaviour or actions of others, or the safety of children and young people, professionally and promptly and in line with Hockey procedures*

I will take all reasonable steps to protect children and young people from sexual, physical and emotional abuse*

I will demonstrate this by:

Always listening to children and young people, empowering them to express their ideas and opinions and take them seriously.*

Building supportive and professional relationships with children and young people that never put their safety and wellbeing at risk.*

Working within my own professional boundaries and the limitations of my role in an open and transparent way.*

Being aware of, and consistently acting on, my obligations to contribute to the protection of children and young people.*

I will contribute to a welcoming and inclusive culture and environment (physical and online) for all children and young people, and their families, regardless of their background or my own views*

I will demonstrate this by:

Being respectful and accessible, and always working towards increasing the participation of children and young people from diverse backgrounds in Hockey.*

Responding with sensitivity to the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, and children and young people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds.*

Responding with sensitivity to the individual needs of LGBTIQA+ children and young people, and those living with disabilities, disadvantage, or social vulnerability.*

Setting aside my own personal views so they do not influence my behaviour or the way I treat other people within the defines of my role.*

I will Conduct myself in a way that a reasonable person would consider appropriate, both inside and outside of the confines of my role with Hockey.*

I will demonstrate this by:

Modelling positive adult behaviour and using appropriate language when in the presence of children and young people .*

Never engaging with children and young people under the influence of alcohol or drugs (illicit or prescription) while undertaking my role.*

Representing Hockey in a positive light and wearing uniform as required.*

Behaving appropriately and respectfully online both in a professional and private capacity.*

Respecting the privacy and confidentiality of children and young people and only sharing personal information when it is in their best interest.*
