Queensland are sitting on top of the Under 18 Women's Hockey Championship ladder this morning after a high‐class, dogged clash with New South Wales in Port Lincoln yesterday.
The Maroons were out of the blocks early on day two of the competition with their renowned finesse and speed building up to a field goal from Ashleigh Mackay at the 14 minute mark.
New South looked sluggish and soon the pace of the swift Queensland attack saw Tiarna Gordon slot home a penalty corner goal. Six minutes later Tiarne found the net again, this time from a field goal to see Queensland all smiles at three‐nil up.
Captain Jacqui Day controlled the mid‐field with Jordyn Holzberger and Jasmine Larosa, setting up attack for key strikers Tamara Lloyd‐Jones and Tiarna Gordon, who has three goals for the championships.
New South were shell shocked but the half‐time break allowed them to regroup and they retaliated when captain Emily Smith scored from a penalty corner goal three minutes into the second half.
Pippin Saunders again starred, scoring her third goal for the tournament when she converted a penalty corner for the Blues near full‐time. The 3‐2 scoreline was fitting of two class teams.

Northern Territory went down to New South Wales, but were very competitive.
They fought hard the whole game, forcing New South Wales to turn the ball over time and time again.
They had done their homework with the defence reading the NSW attack, cutting out the ball with some great tackles.
It was a gallant effort with the team lifting without key strike forward Brooke Peris, who was out with injury.
