Wollongong and the Illawarra Region Named Hosts for the 2026 New Balance Hockey NSW Regional Challenge

Wollongong and the Illawarra Region have been selected to host the 2026 New Balance Hockey NSW Regional Challenge, the culmination of the Centre of Development (COD) program which starts next week, 27 February to 1 March 2026.
Hockey NSW and the Illawarra South Coast Hockey Association will jointly deliver this highly anticipated event, three days of non-competitive hockey for Under 12 and Under 14 boys and girls to showcase the skills they have developed through participation in their local COD program. Richard Griffiths, Chief Operating Officer of Hockey NSW, said he and everyone at Hockey NSW are excited for the upcoming event and can’t wait to visit the region next year.
“We are delighted to host the 2026 New Balance Regional Challenge in Wollongong. This event is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talents while enjoying the magnificent beauty and hospitality of the Illawarra region. We encourage all participants and their families to immerse themselves in the local culture and take advantage of everything Wollongong has to offer,” he said.
Located in the picturesque Illawarra region, the tournament will not only focus on hockey but also provide participants and their families the chance to explore Wollongong and its surrounding attractions.
