5 NSW players named in the 2024 National Women's Development Squad

Published Wed 13 Dec 2023

In anticipation of a monumental year for hockey, marked by the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, the 2024 National Women’s Development Squad has been announced, featuring 20 talented players. This dynamic squad is poised to inject essential depth into the recently revealed Hockeyroos 2024 lineup.

Alice Arnott and Maddison Brooks, alumni of the 2023 Development squad, have been alleviated to the Hockeyroos team this year. Impressively, both players have not only earned their spots in the national squad for 2024 but also exemplify the squad's commitment to nurturing emerging talent. Joining them are ten other athletes who have successfully secured their positions for the upcoming year.

A standout element of this squad is the remarkable performance displayed by numerous athletes in the JDH Hockey One League this year. Evie Dalton, known for her stellar goalkeeping with the Tassie Tigers, has earned her spot in the Development Squad for the first time, showcasing the depth of her skills. Equally impressive is Dayle Dolkens, who contributed to her Brisbane Blaze team's triumphant Grand Final win with a noteworthy performance.

The 2024 Development Squad boasts a diverse lineup, featuring promising players from across the nation, including seven from Queensland, five from NSW, four from WA, three from Victoria, and one from Tasmania.

Under the guidance of NAPP coaches, National Development Squad (NDS) athletes undergo training at their respective National Training Centres (NTC). Additionally, there is an exciting prospect for squad members as they may receive invitations to travel to Perth for specialized training with the Hockeyroos, facilitated by Visiting Athlete Agreements (VAA).

As the hockey community eagerly awaits the unfolding of the 2024 season, the National Women’s Development Squad stands as a testament to the sport's commitment to fostering talent and ensuring a bright future for Australian women's hockey.
