Nine NSW Athletes Earn Selection to Australian Under 21 Squads
Published Tue 12 May 2026

Nine athletes from New South Wales have been selected in the Australian Under 21 squads following the conclusion of the 2026 Hockey Australia Under 21 Championships in Canberra in April.
The Burras (Australian U21 Men) and Jillaroos (Australian U21 Women) squads will take part in training opportunities and camps throughout the year, with dates and locations to be confirmed. The squads will also form the basis of Australian teams selected for international tournaments later in 2026, including the annual Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia, traditionally held in late October.
Five athletes from the Silver Medal-winning NSW State U21 Women’s team earned selection to the Jillaroos squad, while four athletes from the Bronze Medal-winning NSW State U21 Men’s team were named in the Burras squad after impressive performances throughout the Championships.
The selections highlight the strength of hockey talent across New South Wales, with six of the selected athletes coming from greater metropolitan Sydney. The remaining representatives hail from Parkes, Newcastle, and Goulburn.
The achievement reflects the continued success of the Hockey NSW high performance pathway and the depth of emerging talent within the state program.
