Selector Positions

Supporting Fair, Consistent and Athlete-Focused Identification & Selection

Hockey NSW is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced, knowledgeable and athlete-focused individuals to join the selection panels for the 2027 NSW State Squads and Teams.

Selectors play a critical role in identifying athletes and supporting the progression of players through the Hockey NSW Pathways & Performance Program. Successful applicants will contribute to a fair, transparent and consistent selection process, applying contemporary hockey knowledge, sound judgement and an understanding of athlete development within a high-performance pathway environment.

Selectors will work collaboratively with Hockey NSW staff and fellow selectors to assess athletes against Hockey NSW selection criteria, identify development opportunities and support the formation of NSW Squads and Teams.

Positions Available

NSW State Squad & Team Selectors – Male & Female Programs

Selectors may be appointed across the following age groups:

• U14 NSW State Squads & Teams
• U16 NSW State Squads & Teams
• U18 NSW State Squads & Teams
• U21 NSW State Teams
• NSW Country Squads & Teams

Program Commitments

All successfully appointed Selectors must be available to attend and actively participate in the selection commitments associated with their appointed age group.

These commitments may include:

Selection Activities

• State Championship observations and athlete identification
• State Selection Events
• Squad selection meetings and calibration discussions
• Team selection meetings and final decision-making processes

Applicants should ensure they can commit to the required selection schedule prior to submitting an Expression of Interest.

Hockey NSW is seeking Selectors who demonstrate a commitment to:

• Applying a fair, consistent and evidence-based approach to athlete identification and selection
• Strong understanding of hockey technical skills, tactical concepts and game demands
• Recognising athlete potential and development within a pathway environment
• Demonstrating sound judgement, integrity and confidentiality throughout the selection process
• Collaborating effectively with selectors, coaches and Hockey NSW staff
• Providing constructive feedback that supports athlete growth and development
• Understanding safeguarding responsibilities and maintaining professional standards
• Upholding the values, behaviours and expectations of NSW representative programs

Applicants should have demonstrated experience in hockey coaching, talent identification, athlete development or high-performance environments.

Application Process

The Hockey NSW appointment process will include the following stages:

Expression of Interest Submission
Applicants submit their EOI outlining relevant experience, qualifications and suitability for the Selector role.

Shortlisting & Interview
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online interview (approximately 30 minutes) to discuss their experience, selection approach and understanding of athlete development.

Appointment & Onboarding
Successful applicants will be required to attend a Hockey NSW onboarding induction process later in the year, providing key information regarding selection processes, policies, expectations and campaign requirements.

Applicants should ensure they are available to participate in all stages of the process prior to submitting their application.
